The start of the new year is the perfect time for a fresh start. What better way to kick off the year than by securing a new job?

How do you know if you are ready to make the move? As global people specialists for the aviation and airline sectors, we are here to help you make the decision. We have outlined 10 signs that show changing jobs could be the best decision for you.

1. You dread going to work

For most people, work is a fundamental part of life and having a passion for what you do is important for your overall happiness and well-being. If you dread going to work, you should consider the amount of time you spend in the workplace. Ask yourself: “Am I getting the job satisfaction I envisaged when I accepted this role?”

If there is a certain situation that could be changed to improve your happiness at work, we suggest speaking to your employer to find a solution. On the other hand, if there are too many factors contributing to the dread you face, a change in jobs might be the only option for shifting your perspective.

2. You are quietly quitting

Quiet quitting has gained tremendous attention in the media this year – it means quitting your job without resigning. Do you only work your contracted hours? Are you doing the bare minimum to get the job done? Are you staying well within your job description and not putting in any extra effort? It’s likely you are quietly quitting.

Signs you are quietly quitting:

  • You are clock-watching and counting down every minute until the end of the working day

  • You have no excitement or passion for your work

  • You are leaving work early or arriving late

  • You are not putting in the effort and doing things without any care

  • You have no interest in what is happening in the business or where your role is going

3. You are not progressing

For many people, it is important that their job offers more than just an occupation. It can be important for many that their job offers them a rewarding career and the opportunity to continuously progress. If you’re not progressing, ask yourself and your manager why. Do you want to progress and if so, what are the opportunities to do so?

If your employer cannot offer you progression opportunities or just isn’t concerned about your career, it might be time to look for a new opportunity. If you are looking to progress in your career by changing jobs, make sure this one gives you the platform to cultivate a good career for yourself.

4. You are always complaining to others

Do you find yourself complaining to other people about your job? An occasional moan is fine, but when you find yourself stuck in this pattern it might be a warning sign.

Do you want to be in a job that doesn’t make you happy? Your job should bring you an element of joy, satisfaction, and reward. It should not make you feel miserable.

5. You have never had a pay rise

It can be extremely frustrating when you are putting in the hard work, but you aren’t getting anything extra back from your employer. Regular pay reviews are a sure way for your employer to acknowledge the value you bring to the business.

If you haven’t had one, or it has been a while since you have, you may be asking yourself, “Why am I putting in the work and not seeing the reward?”

Performance reviews are a great time to discuss pay rises. If you ask for one but it is dismissed, or you are told to mention it in a few months, you could start exploring what other employers are paying.

If your research shows other businesses in your industry are paying more and you no longer feel valued in your job, this could be a sign that you are ready for your next opportunity.

6. Your stress levels are high

A little bit of stress can be motivating. It shows you care about your job and that you have a good amount of responsibility. However, if you constantly feel anxious, worried about work, or under immense pressure, something needs to change.

According to the Mental Health Foundation 1 in 7 people experience mental health problems at work. Workplace well-being should be a key priority, and everyone should be in a job that supports this. Is your current job worth the detrimental health effects that stress can have on the body?

Take time to research jobs and companies that offer flexibility and promote work-life balance. You’ll find that there are employers that support the well-being of their employees and promote job satisfaction.

7. You are ready for a change

You may love your job, but have you been thinking about what’s next? It can be common to outgrow a role and change is good for keeping the passion for what you do alive. Remember, it is normal to want a career that challenges and excites you. It’s how you can keep your career on an upwards trajectory, if that is what you want.

8. You don’t align with the company culture or values

The values and culture of a company play a key role in job satisfaction. If you align with both aspects, you are more likely to feel positive about where you work and what you do. However, if you do not feel like you resonate with the company culture or values, you are more likely to feel alienated and negative towards the workplace.

If you find yourself disagreeing with the values, ethos, and mission of your current company, you might want to consider looking at other opportunities with employers who align better with what you believe in.

9. You aren’t motivated

If you love your job, you are more likely to be motivated to make each working day count. You’ll want to bring innovative ideas to the table and work that extra bit harder. If you aren’t, you’ll be looking for distractions from what you are meant to be doing.

10. You have already started looking at new jobs

Have you found yourself scrolling frequently through job boards? If you are happy in your job, you probably wouldn’t be thinking about looking at what else is out there. This is one of the most obvious signs you need to stop scrolling and start applying.

At GOOSE Recruitment, we are dedicated to supporting aviation and airline professionals, like you, to find them their dream job opportunities.
