  2. Get Visible in the Right Spaces

  3. Make the Candidate Experience Count

Punctuality Tops Public Priorities for UK Aviation - GOOSE Recruitment

Punctuality Tops Public Priorities for UK Aviation

A recent survey commissioned by Nats, polling 1,217 UK adults, found that 63% believe improving flight punctuality should be aviation’s top priority, compared with 56% who prioritise reducing emissions. Environmental concern has risen slightly from 53% in 2024, but remains below the 70% recorded in 2020.

Nats has been enhancing punctuality using tools like “intelligent approach”, which optimises distances between arriving aircraft. In June, it was responsible for just 1.2% of delays for flights to Europe, despite handling nearly a quarter of air traffic. The survey also highlighted growing public support for innovation: 68% support AI-enabled baggage screening, and 50% back AI managing flight routing.

Simon Warr, Nats’ Communications Director, said:

The 2025 Aviation Index highlights the public’s clear priorities: reliable service, greater environmental performance, and smart use of innovation. As the aviation industry continues to modernise, aligning with these expectations will be key to maintaining public trust.

Implications for Employers and Candidates

Employers may prioritise hiring for operations, ground handling, and air traffic control roles, alongside technology-focused positions in AI and automation. Candidates with multi-skilled expertise bridging punctuality, sustainability, and technology are likely to be in demand. Frontline roles may also gain prominence as airlines focus on managing passenger experience during disruptions.
