Meet Xavier Perkiss, Recruitment Consultant - Flight Crew at GOOSE Recruitment
We sat down with Xavier Perkiss, a dedicated Recruitment Consultant at GOOSE Recruitment, to discuss the current Flight Crew job market and his expert career advice for aviation professionals. This interview offers valuable insights and practical tips to help candidates approach the market and stand out in their job search.
What are the top three trends shaping the future of the flight crew job market?
Increasing Diversity in Flight Crew: There's a noticeable and welcomed shift towards greater gender diversity, with more women entering and progressing within flight crew roles. This change is being supported by airlines, training organisations, and mentorship programmes.
Demand for Equal-Time Rosters: Pilots are placing higher importance on work-life balance, leading to an increased preference for equal-time rosters. Operators offering stable and predictable schedules are finding it easier to attract and retain talent.
Flexibility with Base Locations: The trend towards open base contracts is becoming more attractive, especially in the business aviation sector. This flexibility allows pilots to be more mobile and choose roles that fit better with their personal circumstances.
What are the top three ways a flight crew CV can stand out to recruiters and employers right now?
Clearly Detailed Flight Hours and Aircraft Experience: Including a breakdown of total hours, hours on type, and recency can immediately catch the attention of recruiters and hiring managers.
Transparency with Licences and Ratings:
It's essential to list both current and expired class/type ratings, as well as licensing details. Even expired qualifications can be relevant depending on the role and the employer’s willingness to provide refresher training.
Tailored and Concise Content: A well-structured CV tailored to the specific role you're applying for—highlighting relevant experience and key achievements—demonstrates professionalism and preparation. Avoid overly long employment histories and instead focus on relevance and impact.
What are the top three soft skills airlines are looking for in flight crew beyond technical flying ability?
Trustworthiness: Airlines value flight crew who are dependable, take accountability, and consistently uphold safety and operational standards. Being someone others can rely on builds trust within the flight deck and across the organisation.
Independence and Initiative: The ability to assess situations, make quick decisions, and lead under pressure, especially in high-stakes environments, remains a core quality for flight crew.
Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Creating a positive and collaborative atmosphere on board is key. Strong communication fosters teamwork, enhances customer experience, and ensures smooth coordination with cabin crew and ground operations.
Please tell us something interesting about yourself that others may not know.
"I played semi-professional football in my youth and was proud to represent my hometown club in the men's team at just 17. Unfortunately, an injury ended my competitive playing days earlier than expected. However, football continues to be a big part of my life, and I still enjoy playing and watching the game as a passion outside of aviation."

Thailand’s Aviation Hub Ambitions
Thailand is accelerating its plans to become a major aviation hub, with Suvarnabhumi Airport at the centre of a multi-faceted development strategy.
A key feature is the proposed MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) centre, which has already drawn interest from global names such as Airbus, Boeing, and ST Engineering.
Air Chief Marshal Manat Chavanaprayoon, Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) and chairman of the Aviation Hub Committee for MRO development, stated:
A section of land at Suvarnabhumi has already been designated for MRO under the airport’s master development plan.
The initiative also includes an aviation training centre designed to develop pilots, cabin crew, and aircraft technicians, as well as investment in general aviation infrastructure and air cargo reform to encourage Thai enterprise and foreign partnership.
What does this mean for the aviation recruitment market?
We anticipate increased demand for skilled MRO professionals, technical trainers, and aviation talent across the board. The introduction of large-scale training and maintenance capabilities will not only create jobs in Thailand but may also encourage talent mobility across the Asia-Pacific region.
