GOOSE Recruitment is proud to partner with a leading Air Navigation Service Provider in the search for a highly experienced Manager of Air Traffic Control. This is a senior operational leadership opportunity, responsible for directing all ATC functions within a controlled airspace environment covering over 8,000 sq. km and accommodating up to 120,000 aircraft movements annually.
The successful candidate will bring both strategic vision and operational oversight, ensuring full regulatory compliance, optimal safety standards, and continual team performance development.
Key Responsibilities Strategic and Departmental Leadership
- Provide clear leadership and strategic direction for all ATC functions.
- Set departmental goals, manage KPIs, and ensure alignment with organisational strategies.
- Represent ATC at management and leadership team levels, contributing to airport-wide planning.
- Champion a future-focused, inclusive leadership culture that adapts to change.
- Oversee the safe, orderly, and efficient flow of air traffic within the designated control zone.
- Ensure resilience through effective shift planning, procedural compliance, and real-time service delivery.
- Act as senior ATC representative during emergency responses or irregular operations.
- Lead delivery of safety assurance activities in line with national and international standards (EASA, ICAO, CAA).
- Drive continuous improvement through internal audits, risk assessments, and safety reporting.
- Foster a culture of safety ownership and learning within the team.
- Implement robust succession planning, talent development, and pastoral support systems.
- Monitor rostering, fatigue, licensing, and training compliance across the team.
- Maintain high levels of staff engagement through visible leadership and clear communication.
- Ensure all air navigation services comply with applicable aviation regulations and safety cases.
- Maintain active relationships with regulatory bodies, adjacent ANSPs, and stakeholders.
- Lead the ATC contribution to operational and infrastructure projects, including CNS upgrades and airspace reviews.
- Act as ATC sponsor for procedural and technological change initiatives.
- Work closely with airport operations, engineering, fire & rescue, security, and APOC teams.
- Support the organisation in areas such as emergency planning, environmental strategy, and business continuity.
- Degree in Aviation Management or equivalent experience.
- Proven senior-level experience in a busy ATC environment (both as an ATCO and manager).
- Strong knowledge of CAA, EASA, and ICAO regulatory frameworks.
- Previously held or currently hold an ATC licence.
- Demonstrated experience in people leadership and safety governance.
- OJTI or Assessor qualifications.
- Experience as Watch Manager or similar leadership position.
- Training in CMI Level 5 (or equivalent) in Leadership & Management.
- Involvement in CNS/ATM project delivery or airspace design changes.
- Department of 36 staff (including 26 ATCOs).
- Oversight of an OPEX budget.
- Strategic input into CAPEX planning and tri-national MoU cost-recovery processes.
- £110K-£130K salary DOE.
